Having Fun with Turbo Hal

After 15 years in the HCC administration (trying to make a difference), I returned to teaching in 1996 to the Brandon Campus of HCC. I was having fun teaching at there, split between chemistry, computer science, and education courses (sort-of-a faculty-of-leftovers).

However, in 2000 I became fulltime Computer Science and made chair of the department by President Carloa Soto (over my objections). For four years, I had a great time, but in 2001, they convinced me to enter the Florida DROP program, which resulted in my retiring July 1, 2004, four years later. I completed 35 years at HCC, although when I went to the Faculty In-service in August 2004 after retiring to receive my 35 year recognition award, they did not give me that award saying I was three weeks short of 35 years, since my first contract in 1969 did not begin until the third week of September. (All 54 faculty began then, because the calendar was based on quarter time but semester credits)

Below are a couple of photos of education students and myself playing Turbo Hal (a program designed by Professor Tim Totten-adpated by John Taylor to teach elementary students the fundamentals of computer programming):
